Recyclable Items
Aluminum Cans, Glass, Tin (Steel) Cans and Plastics:
The following items can be mixed together in one container.
Aluminum Cans
Cans should be rinsed. You may crush the cans if you wish. Please, do not include aluminum foil, pie tins, or cooking trays.
Glass
Rinse glass containers. Glass never wears out - it can be recycled forever. We save over a ton of resources for every ton of glass recycled: 1,330 pounds of sand, 433 pounds of soda ash, 433 pounds of limestone, and 151 pounds of feldspar.
Tin (Steel) Cans
Cans should be rinsed. Lids may be placed in the cans. Tin cans are actually 99% steel, with a thin layer of tin added to prevent rusting. Recycling steel and tin cans saves 74% of the energy used to produce them from raw materials. Labels do not have to be removed. Please, do not include paint, aerosol, pesticide or herbicide cans!
Plastics
Plastic food or beverage containers with the numbers 1 through 7 (excluding Styrofoam and plastic film) can be recycled. For example: plastic milk jugs, soda bottles, liquid laundry detergent and bleach containers. Remove lids and caps and throw away with your regular trash. Even a small bit of the wrong type of plastic can ruin a whole batch. Please, do not include motor oil containers, or any non food, or non beverage items.
Paper and Cardboard:
The following items can be mixed together in one container.
Mixed Paper - Which includes: Office paper, unwanted mail, magazines, catalogs, and phone books. Please do not include plastic or wax coated paper, carbon paper, hardback books or overnight envelopes.
Cardboard - It is important to keep cardboard clean and dry. Flatten boxes to save space in the recycling bin. Recycling cardboard saves about 1/4 of the energy used to make it.
Unfortunately we cannot accept plastic bags (such as Wal-Mart or grocery bags) for recycling. These can be returned to the store for recycling! Please do not place these bags in the recycling bins.
